Privacy Policy

MakerTime values your privacy and is committed to protecting your data. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our OSX desktop application and associated services. By using MakerTime, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy.

1. Data Collection

MakerTime operates with Privacy by Design principles. By default, no data is transmitted off your device.

  • Local Data:

    • Screenshots: MakerTime takes screenshots of your active window every 45 seconds (default) for analysis. These screenshots are stored temporarily on your device in /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/ai.makertime and are automatically deleted after processing.
    • SQLite Database: MakerTime stores analyzed results (e.g., productivity scores and deep work patterns) locally for goal tracking and reporting.
  • Optional Data Sharing:

    • OpenAI Configuration: If you configure MakerTime to use OpenAI as a backend, relevant data (e.g., text from OCR or screenshots) will be sent directly to OpenAI servers for analysis. This configuration is entirely optional.

2. Data Usage

MakerTime uses collected data to:

  • Analyze productivity and deep work patterns.
  • Generate daily reports and insights.
  • Provide real-time feedback, such as distraction blockers and goal achievement notifications.

3. Data Security

  • All data is processed locally unless explicitly configured otherwise.
  • MakerTime uses the native OSX OCR API and Llama3 open weights model by default, ensuring no third-party data transmission.
  • Screenshots are automatically deleted after analysis to minimize storage and potential exposure.

4. Optional Configurations

  • Denylist Configuration: You can exclude specific apps or domains from being captured or processed, ensuring sensitive data remains private.
  • OpenAI Backend: If configured, data sent to OpenAI is governed by OpenAI’s privacy policies. Please review their terms before enabling this feature.

5. Your Rights

  • Data Control: You can delete all stored data by uninstalling MakerTime and purging its data directory (/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/ai.makertime).
  • Transparency: MakerTime provides an event log for you to monitor its actions and data processing.

6. Third-Party Services

MakerTime integrates with third-party services only if configured by the user:

  • OpenAI: Data processed through OpenAI is subject to their privacy policy.
  • No data is shared with intermediaries or other services unless explicitly configured.

7. Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Significant updates will be communicated via the application or our website.
